The Statement Coat

Statement coats are one of my fashion fail-safes and when I discovered this gem on Depop, I was utterly in awe of its magnificence. It was everything I had ever wanted in a coat (but was too afraid to ask for.)

The combination of painted wild animals, colours, jungle greenery and gold stitching was too much for my humble senses. The fact that the design was on a warm, padded, dare I say practical? zip up jacket knocked all of my mental settings out of whack.

I had never seen such perfection in a coat and I knew it had to be mine.

Imagine my joy when I discovered it was only £20 (including postage!!!) I hit 'buy now' and within days, this marvellous creation had arrived at my home.

It is the most stunning item I've ever owned, out of any category, not just clothing. I curiously checked the label to see that it was from rose elliott design, London. I immediately Googled it and was genuinely astonished to find no matching searches whatsoever! Surely such a distinctive piece would have left it's footprint on the internet somewhere? I had a jolly good look around the web but can only assume it is a vintage or hand-made piece.

I debuted this little love last Saturday, on a beautiful spring day at Dunham Massey in Cheshire. I wore it loud and proud and with a very large grin on my face.

The key to wearing any statement piece is to do it with confidence. There's no way you can fanny about in a coat like this, you have to work it, mean business and showcase those creatures for all you're worth.

Funnily enough, I didn't get a single look or stare. Quite surprised by this as Dunham Massey was rammed and there were lots of kids about, usually my most critical audience. Not that I was after a reaction, but it just proves that people aren't as bothered as you think about what you might be wearing.

Seems you can even stand on a tree trunk posing and people on a bench nearby will be distinctly not arsed.

I teamed my statement jungle creation with plain black trousers, vintage black bag and a neutral top so the coat could do all the talking.

I'd love to know what you think of my unusual purchase and if you've ever worn anything similar. If anyone has any info on rose elliott design, please let me know as I'd love to see if there are any other exquisite creations on offer!

Shoutout to the Depop seller ohhhs too for helping me to realise my coat goals..
